The driving factor behind every drum we build is the desire to craft the best instrument possible. This is achieved by using hand crafted drum shells built in house, machined to strict tolerances and combined with superior components.
Our finishes have gained notoriety for being the best in the business. We use a special resin to encapsulate your drum in the hardest most protective coating available, ensuring your custom drum can take the abuse professional drummers can dole out.
Our hands on approach allows us to tailor every snare drum and drum set we build specifically to our customer's needs. Choose your wood species, diameter, depth and shell thickness to create your own unique sound.
Inside and out, no detail is overlooked. Our bearing edges are smooth as silk and can be custom tailored to provide your perfect blend of attack and sustain. Stainless steel mounting hardware is paired with a hand rubbed oil finish to ensure the inside of your Cask drum is just as stunning as the outside.
Because our steam bent drum shells are solid wood "single ply" construction and not built with plywood, each piece must be milled to a 1/2" thick plank and prepped for bending.
After being hand formed into a perfect circle the drum shell is allowed to cure for many weeks until maximum stability is achieved. When ready, the 1/2" thick piece of solid wood will hold its shape perfectly even without glue.
The seams are carefully prepped by hand to ensure superior fit and adhesion.
As glue is a dead component, meaning it doesn't resonate at all, we use the most miniscule amount of glue possible. Typically Cask drum sets and snare drums contain 5% of the glue that most plywood drums contain.
As most drums are lathed, we have found that the process can cause abnormalities when typical lathe jaws and centrifugal force distort the drum shell. In order to mitigate this, all of our drums are shaped at an "at rest" state on a custom built CNC machine accurate to one thousandth of an inch.
From adding custom graphics to applying our mirror gloss or hand rubbed oil finish, we always take the necessary steps to ensure that your Cask custom drum has the best finish in the industry.
After the finish is properly polished we mount the best components available on your Cask drum, paying close attention to ensure there is no tension rod splay or misalignment, allowing the end user to properly tension the drum.
Ensuring your one of a kind drum makes it safely into your hands could be the most important step in the process. We pack each drum meticulously, taking extra care that it will withstand water damage and impact. If it doesn't, we build you a new one at our cost.
